Aeration is probably the single most important operation you
can carry out on your pitch.
Verti-Draining is imperative during the winter months to remove and prevent surface water especially when positive heave action is applied to break up the compacted turf between holes.
Vertical tine aeration with 12mm pencil tines are perfect for aerating a cricket square. This offers minimum disturbance in the surface whilst benefiting underneath in the soil.
Linear aeration slices lines in the ground with a maximum working depth of 10 inches.
By aerating linearly and disturbing the soil underneath by shaking from side to side it revitalises heavy wear areas by reducing soil compaction.
Being the fastest PTO-driven rotary linear aerator in the world, the Imants Shockwave is ideal for work on large areas such as rugby and football pitches, golf fairways and large lawns.
"Overseeding is usually carried out at the end of a particular sporting season"
There are several ways to carry this out. You can broadcast the seed with a pedestrian spreader ideal for cricket squares and bowls greens.
Another way for much larger areas is to use a tractor mounted disc seeder. With this option you have much greater control over where the seed is sown and at what depth.
Minimal surface disturbance occurs and the big plus on this system is the seed is placed in the soil which helps speed up the germination process as well as keeping it out of reach of those hungry birds.
We can supply and apply all types of seed
We supply and apply liquid fertilisers and liquid chemical applications for weed control, fertilisers, pest control & moss control with our tractor mounted and hand held spraying units.
Spraying is carried out by our professionally certified operatives.
We also supply and apply all types of granular fertilisers.
Our range of specialist equipment for both large and small spaces allows us to complete the job with no hassle. Are machines are capable of spreading:
Rootzone is a mixture of sand and soil and is used to reinstate pitch levels. This includes divots and areas of high use (goalmouths & touchlines). Rootzone will also improve drainage especially when combined with vertical tine aeration.
We can arrange the supply of top dressing materials
Ideal for larger areas such as Football, Rugby and other larger areas.
With easy height adjustment the Amazone SmartCut is easy to set up.
Scarification removes thatch and dead grass from turf surfaces, football and rugby pitches, cricket squares, bowling greens and grass tennis courts. By carrying out this operation you also remove the weaker shallow rooted meadow grass and mosses leaving behind the stronger deeper rooting Ryegrasses.
The SISIS TM1000 is perfect for use on Cricket Square, Bowling Greens, Croquet Lawns, Tennis Courts and other small playing areas.
The TM1000 is capable of scarifying into the surface to leave a groove for seed and top dressing to fall in place whilst removing thatch and other organic matter from the playing area.
KORO Field Top Maker
As well as being able to cleanly remove any sports surface with the 10mm blade fitted Universe® rotor, the KORO FTM can have 3mm blades fitted with 7mm spacing. These blades then snatch out poa plants leaving the deeper rooted good grass plants.
Accuracy of cut/depth is controlled by the four roller adjusters, which can be set and locked off to increments of 1/10th of 1 mm.
"'Koro-ing' removes all unwanted organic matter, and reduces poa annua to a minimal level, leaving the surface flat, level and even"
Designed for removing week poa annua grass, thatch build-up and weeds or even removing the entire turf surface allowing rapid regeneration.
Most warm-season grasses are prone to the rapid accumulation of thatch in the sward. Conventional verti-cutting and scarifying only removes around 7 – 10% of the surface matter, and unless done on a regular basis cannot keep up with the accumulation of thatch.
The Koro has a working depth of 0-50mm using it's Universe®
rotor and 10mm blades meaning that we can remove all organic build up in one pass.

Synthetic Surface Maintenance
"Effective maintenance to cater for the upkeep of all synthetic surfaces whether they are sand, rubber crumb or water based. These services are designed to increase the life of your synthetic surface."
We use a Charterhouse Verti-Top 1200 with a powered rotary brush to remove debris and infill from the surface. The machine carefully sifts through the mixed debris and redistributes the clean infill back onto the pitch leaving a clean, smooth and aesthetically pleasing playing surface.
Sand and rubber crumb based surfaces wear out over time and as such the infill needs to be topped up to keep the carpet pile healthy and to meet the performance requirements set by the manufacture to result in a consistent texture so that it gives a true and predictable game.
Southern Ground Care has the machinery to top up and redistribute infill over sand and rubber crumb surfaces. This is the same process used when applying Rootzone and sand to a normal pitch.
Regular brushing prevents the formation of a compacted and impervious skin on the top of the sand/rubber bed that encourages moss and algae. This will also keep the synthetic fibres standing up and lightly clean the surface, leaving an aesthetically pleasing playing surface.
Moss & Weed Treatment
Weeds & moss are highly likely to grow in areas shaded and not often trafficked by play. We are able to spray these areas with Weed and Moss killer along with spraying a 1 metre perimeter along the wall to stop weeds growing through onto the pitch and stop moss growing in the shade of the perimeter fence.
Synthetic surfaces need to be topped up every 1 to 2 years at a minimum. Too much or too little infill will accelerate the wear rate of the carpet pile, resulting in the quality of the fibres degrading and increasing the need for repair.
These services together will result in:
• Cleaner Infill
• Extended Life
• Removal of Debris
• Improved Surface Quality
• A Smoother Playing Surface
"We offer initial line marking set ups for any sport taking the hassle out of that pre season chore"
At the beginning of the season, you need your pitch markings to be accurate and straight. Even if your club marks your pitches during the season, the first mark is always best to come from a professional.
We offer competitive rates for initial line marking of any sports surface even if it's from scratch without any markers, corners or goal sockets, etc. to go off of.
With the use of Rigby Taylor IGO professional spray line marking machines we achieve crisp clean lines every time.
Paint colours other than white are available.
Contact Us for more information on initial and scheduled line marking.
Our standard sports pitch mowing is carried out with a tractor mounted Major MJ70-190 Roller Mower that provides an easily adjustable clean cut with the desired stripes produced by the twin rollers.
If the cuttings need to be collected then we also have use of our Amazone SmartCut.
